The Green Umbrella is a group of administrators, faculty, staff, and students dedicated to the design and implementation of sustainability-raising initiatives in the Columbia community.

Note 8 September 2006 Please also visit the new version of cuenv and the new Eco-Reps website. We hope to consolidate and expand the functionalities of these three sites into something not altogether unlike CUArts.com. If you're interested in helping with this, let us know.

Next Meeting

The administrative meetings of the Green Umbrella have ended for the Spring 2006 semester, and will resume for the Fall semester in September 2006.

Green Umbrella Notes

The administration's official Environmental Stewardship site is up! Check it out at columbia.edu/cu/environment. Kudos to Kasdin, McKoy, Wright, the Environmental Stewardship Task Force, and everybody who helped to put it up.

(This doesn't mean the work is over, of course; this means that the real work is about to start. Get your coffee ready.)

The Green Umbrella has released its recommendations for the 2006-07 school year; they are available here (PDF, 96 KB). These are "Stage 1" recommendations; we aim to release a more ambitious and comprehensive road map for university sustainability by the end of the Fall 2006 semester, perhaps not altogether unlike the Report of the MIT Energy Research Council (PDF, 2.4 MB).
